Swopaanam: A celebration of Aural and Artistic legacy of the state

This is the first in malayalam film to capture the unique aural and artistic legacy of the state- Chenda and Melam. Through the mark of good charecterization and capturing the identity of the land he belong to, we can see the film maker, Shaji,  is true to his root, kerala's tradition of percussion and many legendary artists who live ahead of their times

Book Review

In Spite of the Gods: The Strange

Rise of Modern India  by Edward Luce

Edward Luce’s book is the perfect book about India for economists who want to go beyond the booming
economy and know more about contemporary India’s society, history, religion, and
politics in the clear-eyed, in a way one can hope to get from a reporter
for the Financial Times.
Mr Luce, who spent five years in India working as a reporter for the Financial Times and married an Indian while he was there - announces at the outset that his book "is not about a love affair with the culture and antiquities of India." Instead he want to know "why India exerted such a powerful spiritual pull on so many foreigners"

the lists of statistics to support the argument that India needs to modernize its cities and get beyond its romantic fixation with villages is most interesting in the book
so much so Luce relies on interviews (with a surprising number of very prominent people), events (historical and current), anecdotes, and other cultural observations
On the other side, th book is journalistic rather than scholarly What we can see in the book is opinion rather than the result of any kind of study

Luce gives very neat chapters dealing with a different theme and each capable of standing on its own feet.

We are offered accounts of India's 'schizophrenic' flourishing economy in first chapter. as an expansion of the Introduction, widened to include the failure of Nehru's economic plans, the village activism of Aruna Roy, and the thinking of some of India's new tycoons
second on its state machinery. he state that the Indian government is overpopulated by self-serving individuals who abuse their power for personal gain
third on its caste conflicts and principal divisions in Indian politics: the low- and no-caste parties; the BJP (and its insidious, fascist association with something called the RSS); and the Congress Party.
Followed by the chapters dealing with the rise of Hindu nationalism, and India's Muslims and India's troubled relations with Pakistan. its relationship with the US and China; the country's experience of grappling with modernity and urbanisation.
the lists of statistics to support the argument that India needs to modernize its cities and get beyond its romantic fixation with villages is another most interesting feature in the book. by reading this book one can see its most exciting and latent account of modern India that are often hidden in the history of mainstream historical statements.

Lacanian critique of Advertising

TAG body spray: who warning girls is who 'Warning' smells

   Who WARNING girls

                Is

   who 'WARNING' smells

Product : Body spray for Men

Key points in the theory

=> Advertising Neglects our genuine needs and creates false
needs or desires . Human life is constructed around this desire and it never be satisfied

=> Enjoyment always constitutes the kernel of the promise entailed in
advertisements. there is no point in
referring this desire to a notion of a prior or superior need.

=> That mean advertising articulates social fantacy around the product
Lacanian definition of fantasy not only as
a screen which promises to fill the lack in the Other, but also as what 'produces'
this lack, what stages a domesticated scenario of castration.

=> Advertising is a symptom of our cultures.
Advertising is the element which
holds together three rings- economy (capitalist market economy), subjective
desire (a particular social administration of desire) and power (a particular
power regime)

TAG Body Spray

An example of how advertising gives the customer a false idea of reality

A group of female volleyball players are seen jumping on, attacking, and pulling at a man on the ground. The caption and writing in the advertisement states:

WARNING: The makers of Tag body spray will not be responsible for any girl-on-girl-on-girl-on-girl-on-girl-on-girl-on-guy action that may occur

The girls jumping on the man in the shot is trying to show how desirable the man becomes when wearing this body spray. So desirable, that an entire woman's volleyball team has targeted and attacked a man wearing it. The girls are ripping the man's shirt off and the man is clearly attempting to get away but the women are not letting him. Tag body spray is showing that this is what would happen if someone wore their product
All feature beautiful girls, in skimpy clothing, which give the customer a false idea of reality in regard to what they are actually buying

Review of a Reality show

Best Citizen Journalist

by Amritha TV

In October 2008,Amrita TV had launched its novel reality show, Best Citizen Journalist-2 on prime time with 15 ordinary, but inspired citizens, competing with each other for the top spot.
Spread over 64 episodes(Mon-Thu 9.30 pm),contestants filed independent stories in diverse segments, such as, Story Round ,Investigation Round, Anti-Corruption Round, Crusader Round and Special Story Round
The reality show really helps to discover and nurture young talent in the field of television journalism
Though the focus is on developing a new breed of fresh talent who will possess fresh perspectives to television journalism, Best Citizen Journalist will not be considering either professional journalists or those qualified in journalism
This type of reality shows are no doubt an outlet for young and aspiring artistes in greater value than those of entertainment-driven reality shows, profit motive of multinational companies are often stand behind such shows, especially the mobile operators, So many reality shows such as Big Boss which are hardly near to real life sentiments and dissillusioned audience as a result, missing laws on addressing the excessive expressions due to these episodes.

Though every reality shows start in the name of finding talent, there are many factors that changes the mood of the contest. first one is  the exorbitant sums offered as prizes. the offers coming for the winners often seems the illusions of business purpose. at back competetors spent large amount of money to attract the judges and audience and profit motives of mobile operators often backs the producers of such reality show.

In few words, we must encourage the type of reality show by Amritha TV , even they backs on profits we can see, in contrast to other types, they make encourage newer talent in journalism culture as well as in result such a journalist are in multiple ways effect on society.
